As you might be aware, we use Facebook to facilitate logins on our service. What you might not know is that we are very careful about what information we request and store from Facebook.
The information from Facebook that we store is as follows:
Full name
Email
Facebook ID
There is a lot of concern that we are harvesting phone numbers and addresses from accounts, but this is simply not the case. In fact, until last friday, it wasn’t even possible.
Facebook made a blog post telling developers it was now possible to request this the phone number and address associated with accounts. The idea behind is was noble, you could use your facebook account for say a an online order, and it would automatically detect your address for the shipping process. However this feature was packed wrongly into the regular permission dialog, so people may have given out their phone and address without even realizing it!!
Thankfully, Facebook used some common sense and put this feature on hold while they are are coming up with a better way to make users aware that they are giving access to this information.
At Reverse Australia we want to make it clear that we would not request this information from Facebook without your knowledge. Not only would it be immoral, but a huge breach of trust.
